The Foundation

Artisan Treads was founded by a family of third-generation shoemakers in Agra, the historic heart of India's leather industry, with a vision to merge traditional skills with modern business needs.
2014

First International Partnership

Behind the Seams: The Goodyear Welt

A hallmark of the finest men's shoes, the Goodyear welt is a complex construction method we have mastered. It involves over 200 individual operations. A strip of leather (the "welt") is stitched to the upper and the insole rib. The outsole is then stitched to the welt, creating a highly durable, water-resistant, and resoleable shoe. This time-honored technique, while labor-intensive, creates footwear of unparalleled longevity and comfort, forming a robust foundation that molds to the wearer's foot over time. It is a testament to our philosophy: build things that last.
